The Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) signed a five-year contract with US Mittal Steel Sparrows Point for caster maintenance services.
This agreement, which will be implemented by the I&S company VAST (Voest-Alpine Services and Technologies), is a continuation of the long-term partnership with this steel producer. Provisions for total service of the two continuous slab-casting machines will be carried out in addition to the continued enhancement of equipment design and maintenance practices for optimized caster operations.
Mittal Steel USA/Sparrows Point, a division of Mittal Steel USA, is a fully integrated steelmaking facility located near Sparrows Point, Maryland. The production facilities of the company include a sinter plant, blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace, slab casters, hot-rolling mill, cold-rolling mill, a coating mill and a tin mill. A total of approximately 3.6 million tons of flat-steel products are produced each year that are sold as hot-rolled sheets, cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheet, Galvalume™, tin-mill products and semi-finished steel to the construction, steel service center, automotive, container and appliance markets.
VAST (VOEST-ALPINE Services and Technologies) is a company of the Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. VAST provides total mill maintenance services to the North American steel and aluminum producers at its eleven maintenance facilities located in Baltimore/Maryland, North East/Maryland, New London/Ohio, Milan/Ohio, Benton Harbor/Michigan, Bethel Park/Pennsylvania, Blytheville/Arkansas, Charleston/South Carolina, Decatur/Alabama, Erie/Pennsylvania, and Sault Ste.
