| | Winejobsonline.com delighted to bring the world to New Zealand |
| date: Jul 28th 2006 10:14
Specialist wine industry employment website winejobsonline.com has announced its sponsorship of the International Chardonnay Trophy at the International Chardonnay Challenge 2006 in Gisborne, New Zealand, in October this year.
The International Chardonnay challenge focuses exclusively on the single varietal Chardonnay, a hallmark style of New Zealand s Gisborne region. Winejobsonline.com is sponsoring the International Chardonnay Trophy, which acknowledges the best wine to come to the competition from outside New Zealand.
Winejobsonline.com founder Heather Battersby says the award reflects her company s involvement with overseas winemakers, wineries and vineyards. Even though we re still focused very much on New Zealand, we ve been pleasantly surprised by the response we ve had from offshore, says Mrs Battersby. Young New Zealanders have been keen to further their wine careers overseas, and winejobsonline.com has become their first place to look.
Many wine professionals are enjoying year-round employment as well as the experience of travelling around the world to work two vintages, one in the southern hemisphere and one in the north. Because of this, winejobsonline.com has experienced demand from a number of northern hemisphere wineries seeking world class wine people. Mrs Battersby says the site also facilitates trans-Tasman exchange.
By sponsoring the international award, Battersby hopes to help reinforce New Zealand s position as a leading wine nation on the world stage. As well as a strong New Zealand showing, entries come from countries such as Australia, South Africa, France, Canada, Italy, Chile, Spain, Russia, Argentina and Hungary. Mrs Battersby says that by entering, the overseas wineries are showing their strong commitment to the Chardonnay variety, despite its falling temporarily out of favour in some circles.
I commend the long-term thinking shown by these wineries, she says. Bringing together the best Chardonnays the world has to offer should make for a lively contest, and we re delighted to be involved.
