| | Late arrivals no longer a problem at Singapore Airport |
| date: Jul 4th 2006 12:05
IT solution from Siemens Business Services optimizes flight management.
In the future, thanks to the gate management system being installed by Siemens Business Services for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, the airport staff’s daily tasks of handling all aircraft movements including late incoming planes or unforeseeable closed gates will be less complex. The system automatically evaluates and co-ordinates ground activities and will improve the utilization of the airport’s resources, by triggering other related systems to direct late-arriving planes to available positions, send people and equipment where they are needed, even on short notice, and thus enable passengers to pick up their bags and leave the airport faster than before.
The system integrates all the airport data from a wide range of information sources. It coordinates the resources required for take-offs and landings - such as personnel, equipment or parking positions - warns of potential overlaps and proposes solutions when planes are delayed. It also reduces the burden of work on operating staff by doing away with the need to manage scheduling manually.
As system integrator and project manager, Siemens Business Services will install the IT solution at the two existing terminals and at the planned third terminal of Singapore’s Changi Airport. The project, which is based on the Flight Information Processing System of UFIS Airport Solutions, is scheduled to be completed by January 2007.
