| | Motorola Ties Volunteering and Technology as Official Sponsor of Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon |
| date: Jun 11th 2006 12:49
Company offers volunteers the chance to win a new must-have device.
On 10 June, Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) will join thousands of volunteers as they come together to make a difference in their hometown - painting, planting and cleaning up Chicago’s schools, parks and social service agencies as part of the Chicago Cares 13th annual Serve-a-thon. Chicago Cares is a leader in volunteerism and organizes the largest single day of community service in Northern Illinois. With more than 250 employees volunteering along with friends and family, Motorola will return to the elementary school employees painted for the event in 2005.
“The Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon is a great way for Motorola employees to roll up their sleeves and work together for a terrific cause,” said Eileen Sweeney, director of the Motorola Foundation. “Our hard work made such a difference to the school and community last year, we just had to return to build upon the improvements started.”
Adding to the excitement and giving spirit of the day, Motorola is holding a text messaging contest for all volunteers at the Serve-a-thon. Volunteers are encouraged to express what volunteering means to them in the form of a text message. Two lucky winners will receive a sleek, new MOTO Q™, the world’s thinnest QWERTY device! The winning text messages and more information about Motorola’s charitable activities in Chicago and around the globe can be found at www.motorola.com/giving.
Motorola’s commitment to the local community reaches further than Chicago Cares. Employee involvement in the city of Chicago includes building houses for Habitat for Humanity, teaching children for Junior Achievement, volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository and mentoring local high school students in an annual robotics competition.
