Dr.-Ing. Olaf Rathjen (45) will become the new head of the Motion Control Systems Division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) in Erlangen, Germany, from the beginning of July, 2006.
He succeeds the previous Division Head Dr.-Ing. Siegfried Russwurm who moved to the Managing Board of the Siemens Medical Solutions Group.
Olaf Rathjen is an engineer with a doctorate in electrical control engineering from the University of Brunswick. On qualifying, he went on to work in different areas of the Automation Group of Siemens AG, from research and development to sales and marketing. After four years as head of the Automation Products business unit of Siemens Canada, Rathjen assumed various management functions at Siemens A&D in Erlangen and Nuremberg. In his last post, Olaf Rathjen was a member of the managing board of the North-Rhine Region of Siemens AG in Cologne, Germany, where he was head of the Automation and Drives Group.
The A&D Motion Control Systems (MC) Division offers automation systems and services for machine tools and for production machinery in the textiles, plastics, woodworking, glass, ceramics, packaging and printing industries, and in sheet metal forming. MC also automates crane systems. Around 5,700 employees worldwide develop, manufacture and sell a range of controllers with integral Motion Control, logic and technology functions right up to converters, servo motors and linear motors. Services such as mechatronics support enable complete simulation of a machine. Online services such as ePS Network are the basis of an Internet-based fault management system and preventive maintenance of machinery.
