Dr. Andreas Bierwirth to be new Marketing Manager of Lufthansa German Airlines.
The Supervisory Board of Eurowings AG has appointed Thomas Winkelmann (46), previously Vice-President The Americas of Lufthansa German Airlines as a member of the Executive Board of Eurowings AG with effect from 1st September. He will simultaneously become a managing director of the Eurowings subsidiary Germanwings GmbH.
Thomas Winkelmann has held senior management positions for Lufthansa in the USA since 1998. He started as Manager of Area Management Latin America and the Caribbean. Since September 2000, as Vice-President The Americas based in New York, Winkelmann has been responsible for the entire Lufthansa organization in North and South America. That included all operative functions, sales, marketing and the stations.
Before joining Lufthansa in 1998, Thomas Winkelmann held responsible management positions, among others, at Deutsche Reisebüro GmbH and at Kaufhof AG. After passing his university entrance examination, he studied linguistics and ancient history at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Münster and completed his studies with the state examination. He then completed a post-graduate course in business administration at the Free University of Berlin. In 2004 he completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in Boston. Thomas Winkelmann is married and the father of two children.
